Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq is facing an uncertain future in Spain despite a productive loan spell at Valencia in the latter part of the 2023/24 season. After returning to Real Sociedad, Sadiq has been deemed surplus to requirements and has already been offered to other LaLiga clubs, only to face rejection.

According to Spanish outlet “El Gol Digital”, Real Sociedad approached Celta Vigo with an offer for Sadiq, but the Galician outfit turned it down. Celta, who narrowly escaped relegation last season, are instead focused on securing the permanent signing of Borja Iglesias, who was on loan at the club from Real Betis.

Iglesias scored 11 goals during his time at Abanca Balaídos and remains the club’s top target. However, Betis are demanding €8 million to part ways with the striker, an amount Celta is currently unwilling to meet.

The move is being delayed by financial disagreements, but a resolution could open a series of dominos in the Spanish transfer market.

Interestingly, Betis’ willingness to sell Iglesias could impact the plans of other clubs, including Manchester United. With Betis looking to reinvest funds from Iglesias’s sale, they are eyeing reinforcements for the right wing.

Top of their wishlist is Manchester United’s Antony, with Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze also being considered.

Should Betis seal the Iglesias deal, the injection of funds may allow them to table an offer for Antony, who has struggled to live up to expectations since his €100 million move to Old Trafford. United are reportedly open to offers for the Brazilian winger as they restructure under new management.

Meanwhile, Umar Sadiq remains in limbo. The 27-year-old forward played a pivotal role in Valencia’s survival last season, scoring six goals in the second half of the campaign, five of which directly earned Los Che six crucial points. Valencia finished the season with 46 points, six more than relegated Leganes.

Despite his heroics, neither Valencia nor Sociedad appear interested in retaining him. As the new season approaches, the Nigerian international is still searching for a permanent home, one that values his contributions on the pitch.
