Amidst a whirlwind week, young talents Anthony Gordon, aged 23, and Kobbie Mainoo, aged 18, experienced a significant milestone by earning their first call-ups to Gareth Southgate’s senior squad.

While Gordon had previously expressed hopes for a summer Euros call-up, both players now find themselves on the cusp of making their debuts for England. With upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium, the anticipation is high for their potential appearances.

Before these crucial matches, Gordon and Kobbie Mainoo engaged in a lighthearted exercise, selecting their ideal England five-a-side teams according to the DailyMail.

Which players made the team?

Their choices were revealing, with some notable omissions from the traditional starting lineup. Despite differences in positions and playing styles, both players ultimately settled on the same lineup.

Gordon’s selections leaned towards familiarity and skill, opting for Jordan Pickford’s reliability in goal and the ball-playing prowess of John Stones in defense.

In midfield, he chose Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham for their undeniable talent and versatility. Upfront, he couldn’t overlook the goal-scoring prowess of Harry Kane, emphasizing his ability to find the net from anywhere on the pitch.

Early last month according to Sports Buddy Rasmus Hojlund heaped praise on magnificent  Kobbie Mainoo for his superb performances as a youngster for the club.

Mainoo’s choices echoed Gordon’s, showcasing a shared appreciation for talent and technique. Despite some playful banter about Gordon “stealing” his picks, Mainoo’s team mirrored his counterpart’s selections, highlighting the consensus on the ideal lineup.

Notably, both players omitted stars like Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice, reflecting the tough decisions that come with selecting a five-a-side squad from a pool of talented players. Additionally, injuries to key players like Kane, Cole Palmer, and Jordan Henderson have presented opportunities for younger talents to showcase their abilities on the international stage.

As England prepares for these challenging fixtures, the inclusion of rising stars like Gordon and Mainoo underscores the team’s depth and potential for success. Their debut appearances could mark the beginning of promising international careers, offering a glimpse into the future of English football.
