Manchester United are reportedly considering a surprising move to sign Ross Barkley in the upcoming summer transfer window. According to talkSPORT, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a prominent figure, is a fan of the former Chelsea and Everton midfielder.
Barkley had a stint with Ratcliffe’s Ligue 1 side Nice before joining Luton last summer. Despite being 30 years old, he appears revitalized at the Premier League newcomers.
Ross Barkley showcasing his true qualities
Barkley’s impressive performances for the Hatters have sparked calls for him to earn a spot on the plane to Euro 2024 this summer. With 33 England caps to his name, Barkley has contributed three goals and three assists for Luton this season.
Also Barkley has created 48 chances for his teammates this season, making him one of the top playmakers in the division.
Rob Edwards’ team is fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League and currently finds themselves in the bottom three, albeit with a game in hand over Everton. If they do face relegation, Barkley could potentially become available for a reduced transfer fee.
Manchester United view Barkley as a potential replacement for Casemiro, especially with uncertainties surrounding the Brazilian midfielder. Despite United paying £70 million to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid in 2022, it’s reported that the new minority owner, Ratcliffe, is interested in finding a buyer to offload him.
Casemiro spell at Manchester United haven’t gone has planned and there are rumours linking him with a return to Real Madrid in the summer which could serve both parties well on the long run.
Sofyan Amrabat is also unlikely to have his loan move from Fiorentina made permanent.
