It has been reported that Chelsea are keen to offload Djordje Petrovic, a player who only joined the club in the last summer transfer window.
The Serbia international signed for the Blues in the previous summer from the MLS for an initial £12. 5 million after being recognized as one of the most promising young players in the league.
In the stormy 2023-24 season, Petrovic played his first Premier League match in December when he replaced the injured Robert Sanchez.
He stayed Pochettino’s first choice until the end of the season, keeping five clean sheets in total.
However, he was not included in the Chelsea travelling squad for the pre-season tour to the US because of a minor injury casting doubts on his long-term future under the new head coach Enzo Maresca.
Possible Goalkeeping Shifts at Stamford Bridge
Chelsea are now willing to entertain offers for Petrovic according to reports from The Athletic as questions regarding his ability in Maresca’s formation have been raised.
The club is eyeing several new goalkeepers, but deals for Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale or Burnley’s James Trafford are out of the question.
Chelsea are preparing to make a bid for Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen who is rated highly by scouts from the Premier League side.
However, according to a report from Sportsbuddy Kepa Arrizabalaga, who was on loan at Real Madrid last season is also likely to be sold, although a recent post from “Ittimania,” an account that focuses on tracking Al Ittihad, disclosed that the new board of directors of the club agreed on abandoning their pursuit of the Spanish goalkeeper.
Additional Potential Departures
Ben Chilwell may also not be a player that Maresca wants in his team. Chelsea are willing to consider bids for him if the offers come with the right price.
Other players that can be sold include Romelu Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, Cesare Casadei, and David Datro Fofana.
The potential sales suggest a major overhaul as Chelsea plans to rebuild the team to fit the new head coach’s philosophy.
