John Obi Mikel has come out to give his opinion on the recent racism scandal involving Enzo Fernández who with his Argentina teammates filmed themselves imitating French African players during celebrations of their Copa America triumph.
This was accompanied by insults targeting the roots of some French players.
Backlash and Apology
Fernández has also received a lot of backlash, for instance, some French players at Chelsea have even decided to unfollow him.
However, the case still remains a subject of investigation even if the man has apologized. Currently, Senegalese striker, Nicolas Jackson has come out in support of Fernández due to the issue.
Mikel’s Perspective
In a previous report from SportsBuddy, Chelsea legend Tony Cascarino stressed that the only way to satisfy some of the teammates is through Fernandez leaving the team.
He also opines that if Fernández returns and particularly if he scores, it would foster some understandings in the dressing room.
Mikel emphasized the importance of the time factor and starting the season well. “If they don’t and it lingers, it breeds negativity around the whole place and we don’t want that,” he warned.
Looking Ahead
Mikel warned that Chelsea can only win if the team unites and enters the season with positivity.
Mikel also highlighted Fernández and the central midfield partner Moisies Caicedo. ‘He is a fantastic footballer, him and Caicedo in that middle, we will dominate any team I promise you in the Premier League but probably not Manchester City,’ he said.
The question that arises here is how Chelsea and Fernández will manage this issue and if the team will be able to perform well in the initial stages of the season.
