Leicester City has parted ways with Kelechi Iheanacho whose contract expired at the end of the 2023/24 season.
The 27-year-old forward, who signed for Leicester in August 2017 in a deal reported to be worth £25 million from Manchester City, scored 61 goals and created 34 more in 232 appearances for the Foxes.
Despite other suitors from Ipswich Town, West Ham United and Aston Villa seeking to retain Iheanacho’s services in England, the Nigerian forward has decided to move to Spain.
Move to Sevilla FC
Florian Plettenberg has reported that Iheanacho is likely to join Sevilla FC through a free transfer as quoted by Fabrizio Romano. Sevilla has agreed with Iheanacho and this makes him the second Nigerian player to join the team this summer after Chidera Ejuke who was signed for free.
In a Previous report from Sportsbuddy, Leicester City have confirmed departures of Kelechi Iheanacho, Marc Albrighton and Dennis Praet. They will leave the club upon expiration of their contracts on June 30.
Papers are being worked on and Iheanacho should be arriving at the club in the coming days.
Medicals and Contract
Iheanacho is expected to take a medical check on Tuesday or Wednesday after which he will sign a long-term deal with Sevilla.
This will enable him to sever his bond with Ndidi at Leicester and move to Sevilla where he will meet another Nigerian Chidera Ejuke.
This transfer means a new chapter in Iheanacho’s career as he will be playing for Sevilla FC, the team that is a seven-time UEFA Europa League champion. People will want to know how the Nigerian attacker will fare in La Liga.
