A former Super Eagles star has said that the Super Eagles team should stop depending on Victor Osimhen as their attacking option.

Etim Esin’s remarks coincide with the recent altercation between Osimhen and former Super Eagles coach Finidi George.

The former Nigerian player has demanded that the Super Eagles adopt a more balanced offensive strategy and stop relying so heavily on the Napoli striker.

He demanded that the forward, the Super Eagles’ standout striker, not be relied upon too much and should build with other players.

Esin on depending on Osimhen

Esin is not happy with the team performance after a disappointing display against South Africa and the Benin Republic in the World Cup qualifiers.

The former Super Eagles star was not pleased with the way the team is too dependent on African Best Player after the Napoli star was absent in both games.

Esin said as reported by Punch, “Back then, we used to have multiple sources for our goals, but now it seems to come either through Osimhen or his work – that is not acceptable in this modern era of football.

“So, if Osimhen doesn’t play, we can’t have goals? He should even be rested in some of these games, like against Benin, even if he was fit, he should have been rested.”

“That is how football is played, good link-up plays and goals coming from all corners of the team.”

Esin’s statement should serve as a helpful reminder for the Super Eagles’ coaching staff and management to address this issue as the team looks to relaunch its 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.
